Dr María C. Latorre

Vice Dean for Research, Postgraduate Studies and International Affairs of the Facultad de Estudios Estadísticos & University Lecturer

María C. Latorre is Associate Professor (with tenure) and a member of the group of experts in international trade of the European Commission. María is currently Vice Dean for Research, Postgraduate Studies and International Affairs of the Faculty of Statistical Studies from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and member of the Self Steering Committee of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence group in the Una Europa Alliance. She is co-chair of the research group in Data Science del Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University and Research Fellow from this institution. She has carried out consulting projects for the World Bank and the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. Maria has been a Research Scholar at the Center for International Development at the Harvard Kennedy School and at Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University. She has held other research visiting positions in the CEPII, the US International Trade Commission and the University of Nottingham. Recently, her co-authored paper on Brexit has received the Best Paper Award 2020 in the International Economics area of the scientific journal: Economic Modelling and another co-authored paper on Brexit has received the Emerald Literati Award in 2019 in the category "Highly Commended Paper Award". 


Dr Jan Wouters

Full Professor of International Law and International Organizations at KU Leuven, Jean Monnet Chair ad personam EU and Global Governance.

Jan Wouters is Full Professor of International Law and International Organizations, Jean Monnet Chair ad personam EU and Global Governance. He is a Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium for Sciences and has been for 13 years the President of the United Nations Association Flanders-Belgium. Professor Wouters has broad experience as a consultant to international organizations at global (e.g. World Bank, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Interpol) and regional (e.g. EU, European Space Agency, OECD, Benelux) levels. He has been expert at the Indicative List for Panels of the World Trade Organization since 2008. In recognition of his unique expertise in both EU and international law he was indicated as a Member of the Arbitration Panel under the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement in December 2020. As President of the Flemish Foreign Affairs Council from 2008 to 2014, Professor Wouters has been advising Belgian authorities on more than 150 recent international treaties. He was coordinator of the FP7 Programme FRAME ("Fostering Human Rights Among European (External and Internal) Policies") and currently coordinates the large Horizon 2020 Project RECONNECT ("Reconnecting Europe with its Citizens through Democracy and Rule of Law"). Apart from his participation in international scientific networks, his advice to international organizations and governments, he is often asked to comment international events in the media. Dr. Jan Wouters has published widely on international and EU law, international organizations, global governance, and corporate and financial law, including 75 books and more than 140 journal articles and 230 chapters in international books.

Dr Nicholas Sowels

Senior lecturer in English for economics at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. His main research interests at present include: Brexit and financial services; poverty and inequality in the UK; economic policy and public service management.

Axel Marx

Deputy Director Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (KU Leuven). Axel has managed over 70 funded research projects and acted as a consultant to several national and international organizations including the European Parliament, the European Commission, OECD and Worldbank, among others.
